Overview
When Sheldon Fingler started Infinite Event Services in Edmonton more than two decades ago, he wasn’t thinking about running large city festivals or major concerts. His focus was straightforward: support community events with tents, tables, and the kind of dependable rental items that keep gatherings running smoothly.
Fast forward to today, and Infinite Event Services has become one of Western Canada’s go-to production partners for festivals, concerts, corporate events, and city-wide celebrations. The difference? A decision that transformed the company’s trajectory: investing in Stageline mobile stages.
” Adding Stageline stages was the turning point in our growth. They didn’t just complement our inventory — they elevated the professionalism of the events we could deliver and opened doors we couldn’t have walked through before. – Sheldon Fingler, CEO, Infinite Event Services.”
Humble Beginnings, Big Ambitions
Sheldon built Infinite Event Services on a vision of taking the stress out of event planning.
” I wanted a company that combined professional expertise with reliability, so clients could focus on their event while we handled the details. – Sheldon Fingler, CEO, Infinite Event Services. ”
For years, that meant a broad catalog of rental gear: tents, tables, linens, catering equipment, AV systems. But the market was evolving, and larger productions were demanding staging solutions that Infinite simply couldn’t offer.
Traditional stage builds were slow, labor-intensive, and often compromised on safety. “Alberta weather doesn’t always cooperate. With ground-built stages, you were always questioning whether it would hold up to wind or rain. And visually, it wasn’t always the polished look clients wanted.”
That’s when Sheldon spotted a gap. Mid-sized events needed something safer and more professional than a ground-supported platform, but smaller than the massive structures usually reserved for headline festivals.
” That gap is exactly where the SL50 and SL75 fit in. It gave us the ability to service mid-size and community events professionally, without overspending or cutting corners – Fingler says.”
A Fleet Built on Listening to Clients
Infinite’s first Stageline purchase, the SL50 in 2018, was a direct response to market demand.
“Clients were asking for something we just couldn’t deliver locally. The SL50 gave us a professional solution that matched the scale of their events while elevating our reputation.”
The return on that first stage was immediate. By the following year, Infinite added an SL100 to step into larger festivals and concerts. In 2023, the SL75 brought flexibility for mid-sized productions, and in 2024, demand justified a second SL100 to handle multiple major events simultaneously.
”Each purchase followed the same formula: listen to clients, recognize gaps in the market, and invest in the stage that would let us say yes to more opportunities.– Shelon Fingler.”
ROI as a Non-Negotiable
For Sheldon Fingler, every staging investment must do more than pay for itself — it has to be profitable within five years. That means the stage must be fully paid off in the first four years, with year five generating pure profit.
”That timeline (for ROI) is non-negotiable in our decision-making. Because we operate in Alberta, our stages are essentially parked for the winter months – which means our rental season is really only about half the year. Every investment has to account for that limited operating window – Sheldon Fingler.”
The SL50 proved to be a quick success, booking enough mid-size concerts and festivals to recoup its cost within a few summers. That success made adding an SL100 in 2019 an easy decision.
“By then, demand had grown to the point where we needed the larger stage to step into big festivals and concerts. It was clear the ROI would be there.”
The SL75 in 2023 filled another gap — events too big for the SL50 but not requiring a full SL100. “The SL75 was about flexibility. It gave us the ability to service more events at the right scale, which keeps utilization high and accelerates ROI.”
By 2024, Infinite had already proven the model so well that investing in a second SL100 became about capacity.
”Demand was strong enough that having two SL100s wasn’t a risk — it was a way to double our opportunities. That second unit allows us to service multiple high-profile events on the same weekend.– Shelon Fingler. ”
In short, Sheldon doesn’t gamble on equipment. He listens to client demand, calculates the market gap, and ensures every stage can meet its five-year profitability test.
Efficiency That Transforms Operations
Sheldon doesn’t mince words about the operational impact: “Stageline stages are a game-changer.”
- Setup speed: “What used to take a full day and a big crew is now a few hours with fewer people.”
- Crew efficiency: “It’s less strain, fewer moving parts, and smarter work. That’s improved morale and reduced burnout.”
- Safety and confidence: “With engineered designs and weather-rated structures, we know events are safe — even in unpredictable Alberta conditions.”
This efficiency has expanded Infinite’s capacity. With multiple Stageline models, the company can now run simultaneous events — boosting both revenue and client trust.
”Instead of choosing between clients, we can confidently serve two or three major events on the same weekend. – Shelon Fingler.”
When the Stage Makes the Show Possible
One event remains etched in Sheldon’s memory. A concert promoter needed a stage set up on a rodeo grounds racetrack — with just two hours from truck arrival to show-ready.
“That would’ve been impossible with traditional staging. But with Stageline, we rolled in, deployed, and were ready for production in the window. The promoter later told us the show couldn’t have happened at all without the stage. That’s when you see just how much these stages can unlock.”
The Stageline Effect: Brand Power and Market Credibility
Beyond efficiency, Stageline has brought Infinite something less tangible but just as powerful: credibility.
“The name itself often does the selling. Clients don’t ask for a stage — they ask for a Stageline. That tells you everything about the reputation the brand has built.”
That credibility has strengthened Infinite’s position with municipalities, sponsors, and high-profile promoters. Infinite Event Services, by owning Stageline, instantly communicates professionalism and safety, reducing hesitation in booking and facilitating faster negotiations.
”When clients arrive on-site and see the Stageline logo, they relax. They know their event is in good hands.– Shelon Fingler. ”
Leading the Industry by Example
Sheldon’s advocacy for Stageline doesn’t end with his business. As President of the Canadian Rental Association, he champions the higher standards the brand has brought to the industry. “Stageline has normalized the expectation that stages must be professionally engineered and weather-rated. That shift has made events safer for crews, artists, and audiences — and it’s set a benchmark the industry now follows.” For Sheldon, being a brand ambassador comes naturally.
”Representing Stageline isn’t just about promoting equipment. It’s about promoting higher standards for the entire industry – Shelon Fingler. ”
Looking to the Future
Infinite isn’t done growing. Sheldon hints at another Stageline purchase in the works — his “secret weapon” — to expand into new markets. For Fingler, just like every other investment, it’s about staying ahead of client demand and keeping our reputation tied to the best in the industry. His advice for peers is direct:
”If you want to grow into larger outdoor events, investing in a Stageline stage is one of the smartest moves you can make. Don’t wait. The demand is out there, and the stages pay for themselves. If you’re on the fence, call me — I’ll tell you firsthand what it’s done for our business.– Shelon Fingler. ”
And while Sheldon’s vision is clear, not everyone in the family is eager for another purchase. “My parents, George and Gloria, told me I’m not allowed to buy any more stages — they’re tired of driving to Quebec to pick them up for me,” he laughs.
Lessons for Other Production Companies
